WSPA-TV Hometown Spotlight Focuses on Belton

WSPA-TV’s Hometown Spotlight traveled to Belton to focus on activity in the community during their early news from 4:30 to 8:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24.  WSPA is the CBS affiliate in the upstate and is located in Spartanburg.  The show went live to Belton where Christine Scarpelli interviewed numerous leading citizens on all Belton has to offer and the new marketing theme….”Belton…A Historic Heart with a New Beat!”

Local leaders said the small city in Anderson County is focused on preserving their history, including the Belton Area Museum and South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame in the historic Belton Depot and the town’s landmark….the Standpipe….which is still operational as a water tower.  Belton has many assets not normally found in a small town, including the Center for the Arts which offers numerous exhibits and classes throughout the year, The Listening Room, which offers entertainment by local bands and professional entertainers, and the Belton Tennis Center, the home of the Palmetto Championships since 1957 with five public courts open to the public at no charge.

Several key events scheduled this year were mentioned:

  • South Carolina State Chili Cookoff April 7-9
  • Palmetto Championships tennis tournament May 26-30
  • Heritage Days at the Belton Depot October 5-6
  • Standpipe Heritage & Arts Festival October 7
