The World of Comics Exhibit

Superheroes run rampant in this entertaining and interactive exhibit entitled the World of Comics, Featuring the Art and Artifacts of Dave and Paty Cockrum.
Dave Cockrum is considered to be the savior of the X-Men, according to the Marvel Comics website.
“Sure, he didn’t create Wolverine, or Cyclops, or Jean Grey, Angel, Iceman and many other X-Men characters, but he made them cool, he made us love them. He is the guy who brought Wolverine to the X-Men, gave Wolverine his trademark mask and his trademark hairdo. It (the revival) was done so well that 25 years later it’s still one of the best-selling comics in the business and has become the basis of an entire franchise empire of toys, cartoons, action figures video games and, more recently, films.”
Cockrum is credited with creating the most interesting of the X-Men characters: Storm, Night Crawler, Colossus and Mystique.
In addition to the core exhibit, local collectors have pooled their favorite pieces to add to the display. Vintage comics, posters, cover art, action figures, costumes, tie-in merchandise, model kits, toys, mugs, lunchboxes, and books are all pieces on exhibit. The political cartoons of Mike Beckom and humorous cartoons of Al Stein are also on display.
Sponsored by Planet Comics and Anderson County ATAX, the exhibit will be available to view through December 19. During the Christmas holidays, the exhibit will be available for viewing by appointment only.
The museums of Belton, located at 100 N. Main Street in the historic Belton Train Depot, are open 9 AM – 2 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 AM – 4 PM on Fridays, and 9 AM – 1 PM on Saturdays. Admission is free.

Community Calendar Policy
1. The Community Calendar is for the promotion of special local events hosted by non-profit organizations, the City of Belton and Anderson County.
2. Organizations may submit special public events and annual fund raisers (but not regular meetings or private event announcements) to be posted.
3. Calendar items may be static or may include a link to the website of the sponsor organization to provide additional information.
4. The Belton Alliance will attempt to reflect accurate information on the Community Calendar, but cannot take responsibility for the accuracy of information provided by any organization.
5. The Belton Alliance retains the final authority to determine if an event may be posted on the Community Calendar.
